About the Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to join our team at our Ancaster bakery. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance function with a focus on improving equipment reliability, optimizing production performance, and supporting operational excellence. This role oversees all maintenance and repair activities for bakery equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations while driving continuous improvement in preventative maintenance and equipment uptime.
Compensation
Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000
Core Accountabilities (What You’ll Be Doing)
Maintenance Leadership & Planning
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of maintenance staff to maximize equipment uptime and minimize overtime.
- Assign maintenance, repair, and renovation work; obtain bids and manage work performed by external contractors.
- Monitor and inspect contracted work to ensure compliance with specifications, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Ensure reliable weekly startup of all production areas and respond promptly to equipment issues.
- Estimate labor requirements and allocate resources appropriately.
- Interpret maintenance specifications, technical documents, and job orders for the team.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Recommend and implement improvements to equipment performance, production methods, and product quality.
- Conduct root-cause analyses and implement solutions to prevent issue recurrence.
- Enhance changeover efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Lead continuous improvement of preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
People Management
- Hire, train, and develop maintenance team members.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Support promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
Budgeting & Procurement
- Develop, manage, and report on the annual maintenance budget.
- Purchase maintenance supplies, parts, tools, and facility-related items responsibly and within budget.
Other Duties
- Support QCDSP (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, People) initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (What You Bring to the Table)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate.
- Demonstrated persistence, follow-through, and results orientation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Understanding of GMPs and HACCP principles.
- College diploma, technical certification, or university degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Preferred
- 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food production.
