As a Sanitation Lead, you will oversee the Sanitation Department, ensuring all equipment and facilities are cleaned and ready for production. You will manage sanitation schedules, train staff, and coordinate with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime. Your role includes conducting inspections, handling chemicals safely, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety throughout the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and properly mix, dilute, and record chemicals for safe usage.
- Always work in a safe manner, ensuring proper protection is always used.
- Consistently and promptly clean the facility and equipment.
- Responsible for Post-Sanitation Inspection and Pre-Operational Inspection.
- Print and scan Kleanz worksheet system as needed.
- Actively participate in cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the production line, including machinery, conveyors, tools, and surfaces.
- Train new sanitation staff and third-party contractors on proper cleaning methods, safety procedures, and equipment usage.
- Inspect all areas of the production facility, including high-touch points and production lines, to ensure cleanliness and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Safely and properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment to sanitize production areas, following manufacturer instructions for correct application.
- Coordinate with production and maintenance teams to ensure cleaning schedules align with production timelines, minimizing downtime.
- Manage the Yeast CIP (Clean-In-Place) system.
- Oversee third-party cleaning contractors to ensure work meets standards.
- Adhere to all applicable job procedures as outlined in SSOP manual
- Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
- Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
- Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
- Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
- Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
- All tools to be cleaned and maintained in good repair. Report any broken, damaged, or missing tools to your supervisor. Do not discard any damaged or broken tools.
- Follow all GMPs including maintaining personal hygiene, handwashing/sanitizing hands, clean up spills (ie: ingredients, water, debris and wood)
- Report any foreign material findings to your supervisor
- As part of food security, report any unusual people or behaviours to your supervisor
- Perform any other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP and Safety policies
- Must be focused, alert, aware, and able to respond quickly
- Flexibility around shift work is required with availability for overtime hours as needed
- Proper understanding of WHMIS requirements
