Sr Manager, Bakery - Operational Excellence

Position Purpose

The Senior Manager of Operational Excellence will be the change agent leader focused on deployment, and evolution for executing and implementing a comprehensive Operational Excellence strategy to drive short and long-term strategic goals. They will collaborate with Bakery Directors, Bakery Leadership Teams, and Change Managers to drive Operational Excellence culture through inspiration standards of change management and ensuring effective failure re-occurrence learnings for the Aspire Bakeries.


Key Accountabilities

This role will provide a full range of services to Supply Chain, facilitating lean events, inspiring buy in and change throughout each facility, developing, measuring and challenging facility systems and delivering Operational Excellence improvement training programs for the facility. Direction in disciplines of best business practices including, but not limited to, improved product quality, World Class yield, increased efficiency and productivity, improved unplanned Down Time performance, decreased cost, employee satisfaction and teamwork, value added manpower utilization. Key incumbent will act as a SME for Bakery Directors and Managers at each facility. This person will work closely with facility change agents and leadership teams to drive Operational Excellence as well as sustainability of standard work processes, and procedures, and higher proficiency in the organization such that business results are achieved. This person will provide direct support and coaching to OE facilitators, as they help their facility understand and adopt Operational Excellence mythologies. Empowering frontline employees, and improving processes, and practices at the plant floor level where changes are implemented to improve financial results, and to create higher levels of food, and personnel safety.   • Driving an Operational Excellence major cultural shift within in Aspire
  • This position will be responsible for implementation of the (AOE) Aspire Operational Excellence program with Bakery Directors and Leadership Team.
  • Share the knowledge and tools to drive the execution of the AOE Model by implementation of change management principles and Lean capability tools.
  • Ensure continuous AOE Site Phase progression within all Pillars at the sites and within the Supply Chain.
  • Provide zero loss analysis across the supply chain.
  • Acting as a thought partner and collaborating on the architecture of the Lean/Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence program
  • Monitor plants’ ongoing adherence to AOE processes, respond to any shortfalls through training, coaching escalation, etc. as appropriate.
  • Provide planning, facilitation, and governance of plants daily, weekly and 30-60-90-day plans to eliminate loss and defects.
  • Develop and maintain processes for AOE system checks and health checks that influence and lead the culture shift across sites.
  • Provide leadership on systems and processes for capturing and reporting operations events and metrics.
  • Provide leadership on continuous improvement tools and methodologies including standard work measurement, methods improvement, root cause analysis, value stream mapping, quick changeover and process improvement teams
  • Facilitating and coaching multiple Kaizen events simultaneously
  • Identifying future OE talent, and coaching on methodologies to support their professional advancement
  • Best Practice identification and sharing to all locations
  • Maintain constant feedback loops between all relevant stakeholders to maintain an extremely high level of accuracy and communication


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Continuous improvement project experience, training and development, TPM, 6’s and Lean Six-Sigma.
  • Must have Coaching, Facilitation and Teambuilding Skills that inspires confidence in others to execute efficiently. Gather feedback, address issues and recognize effort and improvement.
  • Demonstrates passion for continuous improvement and models the positive behaviours and vision for AOE
  • The position requires high level of creativity, exceptional organization and project management skills and thinking out of the box.
  • Must be able to coordinate all operational aspects of diverse project work and work productively with a wide range of people and job levels, both internally and externally to achieve objectives. 
  • Challenge the Status Quo – Ability to identify and bring forth new approaches and ideas even when it is difficult, understanding the audience, functional leaders, executive team and the plants’ culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement strategies and programs that address plant and corporate objectives.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills up and down the organizational hierarchy to include corporate offices.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, presentation and people skills.

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent; or minimum 10 years of experience in leading Lean Transformations in manufacturing operations
  • Continuous Improvement experience; TPM, and Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.
  • Work well under pressure and calm in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality of all interactions and communications.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks with capability of prioritizing and planning work activities.

  • Excellent project management capability.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness with ability to improve and promote quality.
  • Will required travel to support all Aspire Supply chain.
