Position Purpose

Responsible for the efficient maintenance of the facility and equipment.  This includes effectively managing an engineering department, staff and related maintenance programs so that downtime is held to a minimum and an efficient flow of quality product is assured.


Key Accountabilities

  • Maintains facility and equipment in a safe and operational state of readiness at all times in order to fulfill daily production requirements.
  • Oversees engineering department and staffing within established budgetary and policy guidelines.
  • Coordinates a standardized preventative maintenance program to include lubrication inspections and engineering sanitation schedules to minimize production downtime.
  • Maintains engineering department’s shop and equipment required to perform necessary repairs and preventative maintenance for entire facility.
  • Compiles and presents plans to meet long and short term improvement needs in a timely manner including the preparation of capital expenditure requests.
  • Manages and reviews all capital expenditure projects with the Project Engineer to ensure timely completion within budgetary guidelines.
  • Responsible for all outside agency compliance, mandates, inspections and requirements including: OSHA, AQMD, HAZMAT, AIB, insurance, county, state and federal agencies.
  • Submits and reviews Weekly Engineering Report.
  • Responsible for the selection, training and development necessary to maintain a knowledgeable, experienced and productive engineering staff.  Reviews progress with Plant manager on a monthly basis.
  • Participates in and attends weekly Plant internal audit of areas.
  • Participates in monthly safety committee meeting.
  • Participates in staff meetings with all plant management.
  • This position is also responsible for food safety and legality.
  • Supports quality control programs to ensure production procedures are in compliance with best practices food Safety and quality standards.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Highs school /GED Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering desirable.
  • 4 to 8 Years of progressive quality experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • 5-7 years of industrial Maintenance experience plus technical training; AIB Experience desirable.
  • Extensive experience in the implementation and auditing of GFSI and BRC standards
  •  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint skills Ability to analyze data and project trends and correlations.
